It is often thought that our stick chairs, which consist mostly of turned parts, have been the most common chair in Sweden. And that may have been the case in the 20th century. But stick chairs began to be manufactured in the area around Vaggeryd, by emigrants to the USA who had returned home. They had seen mass production of cane chairs in the USA and brought the idea home with them.

Before the production of stick chairs started, you could say that the so-called crib chairs were our most common chair. Slings were made by hand by the local carpenter.

By counting the number of back sticks and looking at other small variations in the chair's construction, you can often see where a particular splint chair comes from.
