The chair is manufactured in DIÖ by the company
Gemla Fabrikers AB. Which is the only furniture factory in Sweden that manufactures furniture according to Michael Thonet's recipe from the middle of the 19th century. A completely unique technique where you bend the wood, after it has been steam heated, in special shapes. the parts are then heat dried in their molds. Then you mill away the surface layer with a special cutter.
This is a very special technique to build furniture. It will be light, stylish and strong furniture.
The heat treatment makes the wood extra strong.

The factory was started in 1855 by Alexis Westerdahl in
Gemla and was then Sweden's first toy
factory. Curved wooden furniture was started in the beginning
of the 20th century.
